I’ve always been drawn to statement necklaces.
Over the years, I’ve carved many winged pieces for my own collection, experimenting with different shapes, sizes and proportions. Most of them have remained personal pieces, made simply because I wanted to wear them. I’m also a passionate jewellery collector, so creating pieces for myself has always been part of my creative process.
While sharing the carving of this latest Libertas Wing Choker, I received so many DMs asking if it would be available and then I decided to make it part of The Wildness collection as a made-to-order design.
The Libertas is an ongoing collection I’ve been developing for many years. Every piece is inspired by wings and dedicated to the Roman goddess of freedom. The name Libertas comes from the Latin word for freedom.
Libertas embodied personal liberty, independence, and the courage to live life on your own terms. Her symbolism has endured for centuries as a reminder that true freedom begins within, with a creative mind, a passionate spirit, and the confidence to follow your own path.
For me, wings have always carried a similar meaning. They represent transformation, protection, and the courage to move forward. They remind us to rise above limitations, embrace change, and remain true to ourselves. The wings I love to carve aren’t delicate, ethereal angel wings. I prefer a stronger, more sculptural interpretation that balances elegance with a darker, contemporary edge.
Throughout history, women have adorned their necks with collars and close-fitting necklaces as symbols of beauty, power, and status. From the rigid gold collars of Ancient Egypt to the elegant neck ornaments seen on Greek and Roman women and goddesses in classical sculpture, these pieces framed the neck, drawing attention to one of the most graceful parts of the body. The Libertas Winged Choker is my contemporary interpretation of those timeless adornments, balancing elegance, and symbolism in a sculptural form.
The Libertas Wing Choker will be available on the website from tomorrow as a made-to-order piece. Each necklace is individually handcrafted and made to measure, ensuring it fits your neck perfectly. It can also be custom engraved with a name, date, symbol, or personal message, making it uniquely yours.
